Off the Cuff

Joshua Tree Shakespeare Company's inaugural Shakespeare Off the Cuff workshop was a resounding success, bringing together community members for four hours of laughter, learning, and creative exploration at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center.

The afternoon began with new board member Ani Crochet leading participants through a lively physical warmup designed to get everyone moving, comfortable, and ready to play. From there, board secretary Liz Wessel took the reins, guiding attendees through a series of energetic improvisation exercises before introducing the rhythms and structure of Shakespeare's language through hands-on iambic pentameter activities.

Designed to demystify Shakespeare and make his words accessible to everyone, the workshop struck exactly the right balance between education and entertainment. Wessel kept participants engaged from start to finish, with laughter filling the room throughout the day. Several attendees remarked on how quickly the four-hour workshop seemed to pass, a testament to the fun, welcoming atmosphere she created.
